.. I have been living in Oklahoma City since 1970. After finishing my Bachelor’s at UCLA in 1968, I started graduate school at the University of Colorado working toward a Doctorate in Psychology. Unfortunately, those plans were temporarily derailed by a draft notice that arrived in my first semester. Having decided that I was unalterably opposed to serving in that war, I contacted the Selective Service with my declaration as a conscientious objector. After much paperwork and a hearing, I received that status and was then required to do two years of alternative service. I was fortunate to find a job in Oklahoma City at the Health Sciences Center as a research technician. This, ironically, was a project that was based in our VA hospital, and I spent two years working among veterans, many returning from Viet Nam. Anyway, one thing led to another and I stayed in OKC for my degree and joined the faculty of the Psychiatry Department and started a career as a VA researcher that continues to this day. It has been interesting to experience the unexpected turns that life can take. In any case, when it all started, I had no idea that I would have such a rewarding career here. I do full time research in behavior, stress, and health. I’m currently building a house near downtown and looking down the road a bit to retirement in about five years. I’m sorry to miss the 45th reunion. Things have just been a little busy with work and related travel. I thank Bill Farah for doing such a great job at pulling everyone together. Have a great time, guys.
