Tim & Carol Nielsen

After leaving St Patrick's, I attended Notre Dame High School, graduating in 1964. Worked at Alpha Beta Market for 1 year and then worked in the lighting department of several studios until I went in the Navy.  Got married in March, 1966 and left for boot camp in July, 1966.  Spent almost 4 years on the Aircraft Carrier USS Hancock, stationed in Alameda, CA.  Made 3 Westpac cruises to Vietnam, also visiting ports in Hawaii,  Japan, Philippines, Hong Kong and Singapore.  First son Tim was born in October 1968 during my second cruise. I was discharged on April 17, 1970 and moved my family back to North Hollywood.  Briefly returned to the studios and then got hired at the North Hollywood Post Office.  Second son born in October,1972 shortly before we bought our first home in Canoga Park. Transferred to the So. Lake Tahoe Post Office in 1977 and remained there until I retired in Sept. 2001.  Raised our children in Tahoe.  Was deeply involved in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball for 13 years.  I retired first.  After Carol retired in 2003 we asked ourselves “why are we still shoveling snow?”.  We moved to Dayton, NV in 2004.  Even though we are only 40 miles from Tahoe, the winters here are much milder with almost no snow to speak of.  We bought a new home on the golf course even though I haven’t played golf since 1984.  We have a great group of neighbors and we do a lot of  socializing……BBQs swapping lies etc. Son Tim and family live in Excelsior Springs, MO and we enjoy a trip to the Midwest every year.  Son Jeff and family live in Gardnerville, NV only 30 miles south of us.

Hobbies:  NASCAR, my yards and enjoying retirement!  Live at the foot of the Pine Nuts Mountains and the neighbor “coots” and I enjoy exploring, Geocaching and shooting.

Favorite memories of St. Patrick’s:

  1. Beating St. Charles in the Notre Dame Basketball Tournament (8th grade)

  2. Friends and the good old days
